CAIRO – Egypt has demonstrated that it is more than capable of hosting major international sporting events, affirmed Klaus Schuermann, President of the International Union of Modern Pentathlon (UIPM).

He extended thanks to the Egyptian government represented by Youth and Sports Minister Ashraf Sobhi for hosting the Modern Pentathlon World Cup.

Egypt is capable of organizing this tournament in a perfect way, he added in statements.

“Despite the difficult circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing war in Europe, we are here in Egypt, that is hosting the first championship competitions of the World Cup, a matter which affirms that the North African country is safe and stable,” he added.

He also extended thanks to the Egyptian Federation and the American University in Cairo (AUC) for organizing this tournament.

The Pentathlon World Cup kicked off on March 22 at the stadiums of the AUC in New Cairo and will run until March 27.

The tournament sees the participation of about 250 male and female athletes from 40 countries.
