CAIRO – Egyptian Transport Minister Kamel el-Wazir discussed Thursday means of boosting co-operation in the railways sector with Martin Herrenknecht, the Board Chairman of Herrenknecht AG, a German company that manufactures tunnel boring machines and the board member of DB Schenker, which is a division of German rail operator Deutsche Bahn.

During the meeting, Wazir welcomed the German delegation and conveyed the greetings of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to Herrenknecht voicing appreciation for his company’s role in implementing a number of mega projects in Egypt, including the Suez Canal tunnels, South Port Said and North of Ismailia.

The Germany company has also trained 40 Egyptian engineers and technicians, said the minister, noting that an agreement was signed with the company to provide 4 new machines to be used in the Greater Cairo Metro Line 4.

The Egyptian minister, meanwhile, welcomed the German delegation from DB Schenker.

He underlined the need for the swift implementation of the Ain Sokhna – El Alamein – Matrouh high-speed electric train project.
