Minister of Social Solidarity Neveen al-Kabbaj said Wednesday that her ministry is to encourage young people to participate in the development of their communities nationwide.

During a meeting with members of the House of Deputies and the Senate as well as junior members of some of the nation’s political parties, the minister added that her ministry had opened offices in 25 state-run universities.

These offices aim at making the best use of students’ energies and mobilise them to achieve national social goals, the minister said, adding that the offices will also encourage youth to volunteer for various national projects.

Offices at universities will explain the benefits from loans offered by the nation’s banks, including Nasr Social Bank, the minister said, adding that the bank offers easy-term loans for small-scale startup projects.

El-Kabbaj noted that her ministry also intensifies campaigns to spread awareness about the dangers of drug addiction.

“We also launch campaigns to create positive awareness of people with disabilities,” the minister said.

The ministry stages campaigns for environment conservation and promoting tolerance among the members of the public.

She said her ministry also launches programmes to offer support to disabled students.
