CAIRO – The state has been keen on boosting agricultural crops over the past years in line with directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Agriculture Ministry Spokesman Mohamed El Qersh said.

In statements to MENA on Monday, he said agricultural lands will be increased to boost productivity of various crops, especially strategic ones.

He referred to a number of national projects for expanding agricultural lands, referring to ongoing efforts to reclaim about 5 million feddans.

As for wheat crops, he said it is expected to harvest about 10 million tonnes as a result of cultivating more than 3.6 million feddans.

He noted that the state offered over LE7 billion in the veal national project whose beneficiaries stood at about 40,000.

He added that the state secured over LE50 billion for developing irrigation systems.

As for securing food commodities, he said there are 171 outlets for the ministry offering all staple commodities at low price in the various governorates.
