Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co‑operation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a phone call on Monday with UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan as part of ongoing consultations between the two countries on issues of mutual interest.
According to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nader Zaki, the two ministers reviewed the distinguished bilateral relations between Egypt and the UAE, as well as developments in the Middle East amid signs of a potentially dangerous military escalation. They stressed the importance of intensifying efforts to prevent further escalation and prioritising diplomatic solutions.
The call also addressed the UAE’s nomination of Lana Nusseibeh for the position of United Nations Secretary‑General. Abdelatty praised the Emirati candidate’s extensive experience and capabilities in multilateral diplomacy, expressing pride in the nomination in light of the close ties between Egypt and the UAE and noting that she is the first Arab woman nominated for the post.
