Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar and representatives of China’s Huawei Technologies reviewed ongoing co-operation and explored the use of advanced technologies to improve healthcare services on Thursday.
The talks formed part of efforts to accelerate digital transformation in Egypt’s healthcare sector.
Discussions focused on the proposed National Digital Pathology and Tele-Diagnosis Network, which aims to introduce digital tissue and cell analysis technologies powered by artificial intelligence (AI) to improve the accuracy and speed of disease and cancer diagnosis, while facilitating the exchange of medical consultations among hospitals and healthcare centres across Egypt.
The project aligns with the ministry’s strategy to advance digital transformation under Egypt Vision 2030, Ministry Spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said.
The initiative seeks to establish an integrated network for archiving and exchanging digital pathology slides, turning hospitals and oncology centres into hubs for research, training and medical innovation.
The spokesman said the project was expected to improve early cancer detection and diagnosis, ease financial pressures on the health insurance system, and create new opportunities for Egyptian medical professionals in remote diagnostic reporting.
It is also expected to support Egypt’s growing health tourism sector by enabling international cases to be assessed and treatment plans developed before patients arrive in the country.
