Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, held talks on Friday with Jordanian Minister of Planning and International Co-operation Zeina Toukan to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and expanding development co-operation.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group in Bangkok.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nader Zaki said the two ministers reaffirmed their commitment to expanding the Egypt-Jordan partnership in the economic, investment and development sectors.
They also discussed exchanging expertise on policies that support sustainable economic growth, enhancing co-operation on development projects, and maximising the use of financing mechanisms offered by international financial institutions to advance development plans in both countries.
The ministers underscored the importance of continued coordination within international financial institutions, including the IMF and the World Bank Group, as well as closer consultations on development priorities across the Arab world.
They further stressed the need to strengthen Arab countries’ resilience to global economic challenges and mobilise financing for development projects, supporting sustainable development and economic stability.
Separately, Abdelatty held talks with Qatari Finance Minister Ali bin Ahmed al-Kuwari.
The discussions focused on strengthening economic, financial and investment ties between Egypt and Qatar, as well as enhancing co-ordination within the two international financial institutions.
The ministers welcomed the positive momentum in bilateral relations and discussed ways to expand Qatari investments in Egypt.
They also explored opportunities to broaden investment partnerships and make greater use of financing and guarantee instruments provided by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to mobilise private investment, particularly in climate finance, green projects and infrastructure development.
Both sides stressed the importance of de-escalating tensions, containing conflicts and preventing further escalation, while intensifying political and diplomatic efforts to resolve ongoing crises.
The ministers also emphasised the need for closer co-ordination to mitigate the economic impact of regional crises.
During his meeting with Sudanese Finance Minister Jibril Ibrahim on Friday, FM Abdelatty reaffirmed the deep-rooted historical and fraternal ties between Egypt and Sudan, rejecting any attempts to undermine relations between the two countries and their peoples.
He stressed Egypt’s longstanding support for Sudan’s unity, territorial integrity and state institutions, underscoring Cairo’s commitment to continued efforts to resolve the crisis and alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people.
