Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar received Lebanese Health Minister Rakan Nasser El Din to discuss avenues for strengthening collaboration and enhancing healthcare services in both countries.
The meeting saw the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Egypt’s Universal Health Insurance Authority and the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health to transfer Egyptian expertise in implementing the Universal Health Insurance System and support the development of Lebanon’s healthcare sector.
The agreement aims to establish a framework for Arab health co‑operation, focusing on the exchange of expertise and best practices in strategic purchasing of health services, health financing, health technology assessment, and health economics studies. It also includes organising conferences, workshops, training programmes, professional exchanges, and the establishment of a joint co‑ordination committee to oversee implementation.
The Lebanese minister praised the technical and medical support Egypt provided to Lebanon during recent events and expressed his country’s interest in benefiting from Egypt’s experience in primary healthcare and universal health insurance.
The memorandum was signed by Lebanese Health Minister Rakan Nasser El Din and Ihab Abu Aish, Vice Chairman of Egypt’s Universal Health Insurance Authority.
