Egypt’s Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir on Tuesday witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Alexandria Port Authority and China’s Xiamen C&D Inc. to establish a bulk industrial cargo terminal at El-Max Port as part of the development of Greater Alexandria Port.
The MoU was signed by Alexandria Port Authority Chairman Ehab Salah and C&D Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Lü Rongdian.
The project is part of Egypt’s efforts to modernise its ports, attract foreign investment and expand private-sector partnerships.
El-Wazir said the project would establish a specialised terminal for dusty dry bulk cargo, equipped with storage yards, silos and advanced cargo-handling facilities.
The design includes two main berths capable of accommodating large cargo vessels. Once completed, the terminal will be able to handle three large vessels simultaneously, he added.
The minister said the project would create thousands of direct and indirect jobs during construction and development.
It is also expected to lower supply chain costs, facilitate the movement of raw materials and finished products, and enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian exports.
