Iran has denied any involvement in an alleged plot targeting RAF Fairford, after British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said the suspected operation was highly likely to have been coordinated in Iran and directed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Iran’s ambassador to Britain, Seyed Ali Mousavi, called the accusation baseless and challenged the UK government to provide evidence. Britain’s foreign minister, Ed Miliband, said he had summoned the ambassador.
Five men arrested near the air base on September 27 on suspicion of terrorism and explosives offences were later released on police bail without charge. Police said no viable explosives had been found in the vans seized during the investigation.
