The minister made these remarks on Monday during a meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives and President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Thailand, Sophon Saram, during his visit to Bangkok.
Abdelatty congratulated Saram on his election as speaker, wishing him every success in leading parliamentary affairs and promoting constructive dialogue between the legislative institutions of the two friendly countries.
He also highlighted the strong bilateral relations built over more than seven decades, noting the positive momentum generated by the eighth round of political consultations, held in Cairo, and the exchange of parliamentary visits.
The foreign minister further stressed the importance of building on these developments to establish a practical roadmap for enhanced political, economic and development co-operation in the coming years.
The minister also emphasised the need to strengthen communication between the two countries’ legislative bodies and maintain high-level exchanges to deepen mutual understanding and promote parliamentary cooperation.
In this regard, he invited the speaker to visit Egypt at the earliest opportunity to exchange legislative expertise and explore further avenues for joint co-operation.
Addressing educational and cultural ties, Abdelatty welcomed the growing interest among Thai students in pursuing their studies at Egyptian universities, particularly Al-Azhar University.
He commended Egypt’s scholarship programmes and the contribution of Al-Azhar envoys in Thailand to strengthening cultural and religious links, while underscoring the importance of developing partnerships between Egyptian and Thai universities.
On the economic front, the minister highlighted Egypt’s potential as a destination for Thai investment, citing its sizeable domestic market, strategic geographical position, extensive network of free trade agreements, and the investment opportunities and incentives available in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.
He also stressed the importance of expanding trade and economic ties and facilitating access for Egyptian agricultural products to the Thai market.
