Egypt, represented by the Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation, has received the hosting flag for the Airports Council International (ACI) World Annual General Assembly (WAGA 2027), which will be held in Sharm El-Sheikh in 2027, following Lima, Peru.
The handover ceremony was held during the ACI-LAC/World Annual General Assembly, Conference and Exhibition (WAGA 2026), held in Lima from Sept. 25 to 29, 2026.
The ceremony featured the exchange of gifts and official photographs, followed by remarks by Ayman Fawzi Arab, Chairman of the Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation.
Arab introduced Sharm El-Sheikh as the host city for the next edition and presented a promotional film highlighting Egypt and the resort city in preparation for the 2027 event.
Arab said Egypt’s selection, representing the African region, to host WAGA 2027 in Sharm El-Sheikh was a strategic achievement made possible by the continued support of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, which he described as the driving force behind securing the event.
He added that the holding company was proud to host the global gathering for the first time in Egypt and the second time in Africa.
Arab said the event provides an international platform for airport leaders, policymakers, experts and industry professionals from around the world, as well as stakeholders across the airport and air transport sectors.
The 2025 edition, held in Toronto, Canada, attracted more than 2,500 participants from around the world and featured an international exhibition with about 180 exhibitors.
He said the 2027 edition is expected to be the largest in the event’s history, featuring meetings of the ACI Africa Board and executive committees, the ACI Africa General Assembly, meetings of the ACI World Board and committees, and the ACI World General Assembly.
The programme will also include plenary sessions and high-level forums addressing key issues and trends shaping the future of the airport industry, including airport capacity, safety, passenger experience, sustainability and airport economics, as well as an international exhibition showcasing the latest innovations and technologies in the sector.
The ACI World Annual General Assembly is one of the world’s leading gatherings for the airport industry, bringing together representatives of ACI’s geographic regions, Africa, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, and North America, alongside aviation industry leaders, policymakers, experts and specialists from around the world.
Previous editions have addressed strategic issues including sustainability, the transition to clean energy, cybersecurity, infrastructure development and passenger experience.
