Minister of Youth and Sports Gohar Nabil attended the opening ceremony of the IHF Men’s Club World Handball Championship at the Al-Nadi Club arena in the New Capital on Friday.
The tournament runs from September 24 to October 1 and features the largest participation in the event’s history, with 10 premier clubs from around the world.
The participating teams are Egypt’s Al Ahly and Zamalek, Spain’s Barcelona, Germany’s Füchse Berlin, Hungary’s Veszprém, Brazil’s Pinheiros, the United States’ Los Angeles, Australia’s Sydney, Kuwait’s Burgan, and Morocco’s Derb Sultan.
Nabil welcomed the international delegations, stating that hosting the championship for the third consecutive year reflects the confidence of international sports bodies in Egypt’s strong organisational capabilities.
He added that the tournament gives Egyptian fans the chance to watch world-class handball on home soil, while providing local players with valuable experience competing against leading international teams.
International Handball Federation President Hassan Moustafa thanked the Ministry and the Egyptian state for their exceptional organisation, praising Egypt’s consistent ability to host major global events.
Egyptian Handball Federation President Khaled Fathy also welcomed all participating teams and expressed hope that the tournament would be successful and high-calibre, reflecting Egypt’s rich handball heritage.
