Egypt’s transport minister met his Hungarian counterpart and senior executives of international transport companies on the sidelines of the InnoTrans trade fair in Berlin on Friday, the transport ministry said.
Kamel El-Wazir and David Vitezy discussed bilateral co-operation in the railway sector, including the exchange of expertise and the development of public, rail and green transport systems.
El-Wazir highlighted the strength of Egyptian-Hungarian ties and Cairo’s interest in expanding co-operation, particularly on railways. Vitezy praised relations between the two countries and Egypt’s transport-sector development.
El-Wazir later toured the trade fair and met executives from Hitachi, Alstom and Systra.
With Hitachi chief executive Giuseppe Marino, he reviewed progress on the Alexandria Metro project linking Abu Qir and Misr Station, including signalling, communications and control systems.
During talks with Alstom chief executive Martin Sion, El-Wazir discussed cooperation on the East and West Nile monorail lines. The East Nile line has entered commercial service, while work continues on the West Nile line.
The talks also covered Alstom’s plans to provide operation and maintenance teams for the West Nile line, as well as the delivery of 55 trains for Cairo’s first metro line between Helwan and New Marg.
At Systra’s stand, El-Wazir discussed engineering consultancy services for transport projects.
