Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, stressed the importance of building on the positive momentum in Egyptian-Algerian relations and translating it into practical initiatives that advance the shared interests of the two countries.

He made the remarks during his meeting on Thursday with the Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs of Algeria, Ahmed Attaf, on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

BRT 2nd phase to begin passenger operations Saturday

Egypt’s Minister of Transport, Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir, has announced that passenger operations on the second phase of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project will begin on Saturday, September 26, 2026, in line with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives to accelerate mass transit projects within set timetables and expand modern, sustainable and environmentally-friendly transport.

In a statement issued by the Transport ministry on Thursday, El-Wazir noted that the second phase extends from Field Marshal Tantawi Station to Sun Capital Station, comprising 16 stations, including Field Marshal Tantawi and Golf, which are already operational and serve New Cairo commuters.

Egypt calls for sustained humanitarian access to Gaza

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty has stressed the urgent need to ensure safe, full and sustained humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip, while calling for accelerated international efforts to improve humanitarian and healthcare conditions and support early recovery.

Abdelatty made the remarks during his participation on Thursda in a Ministerial Roundtable on Humanitarian Access and Healthcare in the Gaza Strip, hosted by UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband and co-chaired by Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and the State of Qatar.

Cairo, Nicosia expand renewable energy co-operation

Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat has stressed the importance of supporting the electricity interconnection project between Egypt and Cyprus, monitoring its implementation, and expanding investment in renewable energy, particularly solar and wind power, as part of efforts to strengthen regional energy security and deepen co-operation with Cyprus and Greece.

The minister made the remarks during his meeting with the Ambassador of Cyprus to Cairo, Polly Ioannou, and her accompanying delegation at the Ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.

MPC keeps key policy rates unchanged

The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has decided to keep its key policy interest rates unchanged, following an assessment of recent inflation developments, the outlook for price pressures, and the evolving balance of risks surrounding the inflation trajectory.

Under the decision, the overnight deposit rate remains at 19.00 per cent, while the overnight lending rate is maintained at 20.00 per cent. The rate of the main operation remains at 19.50 per cent, with the discount rate also unchanged at 19.50 per cent.

Abbas: Israel policies threaten Palestinians’ survival

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said at the UN on Thursday that Israeli policies no longer just jeopardised a two-state solution but were now threatening the “very life and existence” of his people.

“The danger is no longer limited to undermining the two-state solution and preventing the realisation of the Palestinian state. It has now come to threaten the very life and existence of the Palestinian people on their homeland,” Abbas said.

White House defies judge, blocks news outlets

80 countries call for reopening of Hormuz at UN

Some 80 countries demanded the urgent reopening of the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday and condemned Iran and its Houthi allies for attacks in the region and disruption to international trade and energy security.

“Iran’s actions in the Strait of Hormuz continue to threaten international security and navigational rights and freedoms,” said a joint statement read out by Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani at the United Nations.

Macklemore announces concerts for Palestinian aid

Grammy-winning rapper Macklemore announced a series of live performances called “Free Palestine,” with all proceeds going to Palestinian aid organisations.

UK provides £88m in aid for Gaza

The British government on ​Thursday said it ‌was providing an £88 million ($116.25 million) ​package of ​support for humanitarian ⁠relief and ​early recovery in ​Gaza.

The funding would help deliver health ​care, clean ​water, sanitation and hygiene ‌services, ⁠waste management and protection support to people ​in ​Gaza ⁠and the West Bank, ​the UK ​Foreign, ⁠Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) said in ⁠a ​statement.
