President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has highlighted Egypt’s historic and fraternal ties with Iraq, reaffirming Cairo’s commitment to engaging with Iraqi state institutions and political and national forces and supporting the country’s security and stability.
President Sisi received on Thursday the leader of Iraq’s National Wisdom Movement, Ammar Al-Hakim in Cairo.
Egypt’s General Intelligence Service Chief Hassan Rashad attended the meeting. From the Iraqi side, the meeting was also attended by Deputy Leader of the National Wisdom Movement Mohsen Al-Hakim, Adviser to the Leader of the National Wisdom Movement Ahmed Al-Hakim, and Iraqi Ambassador to Cairo Qahtan Taha Janabi
Sisi voiced support for measures taken by Iraq to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He also lauded Iraq’s role in combating terrorism and extremist ideology, as well as Al-Hakim’s efforts to promote stability, reduce political differences and put Iraq’s national interests first.
For his part, Al-Hakim highlighted Egypt’s role in promoting regional security and stability, including its support for Iraq’s efforts to restore its leading Arab and regional role.
The meeting also addressed regional developments and their impact on Egypt, Iraq and other countries in the region.
Sisi stressed the importance of peaceful solutions to crises and conflicts, supporting legitimate institutions and strengthening the concept of the national state.
He also reviewed Egypt’s efforts to reduce tensions and prevent further escalation, stressing the importance of Iraq’s continued constructive role in strengthening Arab collective security.
Meanwhile, President Sisi reviewed Egypt’s efforts in support of the Palestinian cause, including the implementation of the second phase of the Sharm El-Sheikh agreement and the US peace plan, intensifying and delivering relief aid to Gaza.
