Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co‑operation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty hosted on Wednesday a high-level roundtable on early recovery in the Gaza Strip at Egypt’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York , under the theme “From Sharm El‑Sheikh to Phase Two: Consolidating Peace and Early Recovery.”
According to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nader Zaki, discussions focused on the humanitarian situation in Gaza, ways to ensure safe, sustained and unhindered access for humanitarian and relief assistance, and the mobilisation of international efforts to support early recovery and reconstruction and provide decent living conditions for the Palestinian people.
Abdelatty stressed that the Sharm El‑Sheikh Peace Summit represented an important milestone in mobilising regional and international efforts to end the war in Gaza and support peace and stability.
He underscored the need to implement all phases of the comprehensive plan proposed by the US President, as well as UN Security Council Resolution 2803, and emphasised the importance of all parties, including Israel, fulfilling their commitments.
The Foreign Minister highlighted the need to move rapidly from emergency humanitarian response to early recovery and reconstruction, describing it as an obligation that cannot be delayed.
He stressed that priority should be given to ensuring the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid and removing related Israeli obstacles.
Abdelatty also emphasised the importance of supporting Palestinian national institutions and capacities, preserving the unity of Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and strengthening co-ordination among UN agencies, the Peace Council, Palestinian institutions, and regional and international partners in a manner that meets the aspirations of the Palestinian people.
He reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to continue working with regional and international partners to consolidate the ceasefire, advance implementation of the comprehensive plan, ensure sustainable humanitarian access, reject displacement, and support Gaza’s recovery and reconstruction.
