Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said Egypt attaches great importance to the global initiative launched by Ghanaian President John Mahama as a framework for co-operation among Global South countries, particularly African states.
Madbouly made the remarks on Tuesday during the second session of the Global Reset Dialogue, held as part of an event organised by Ghana on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly to discuss the “Accra Reset” initiative.
Madbouly discussed mechanisms for establishing a more balanced international system, highlighting Egypt’s vision for the initiative’s role in shaping the future. Egypt is a key supporter of the initiative, the prime minister added.
Madbouly said Egypt has closely followed the initiative since its launch on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly in September 2025.
He welcomed efforts to develop a common negotiating framework through which Global South leaders can co-ordinate their positions on global health issues.
Such co-ordination, he said, would strengthen ability to articulate their priorities and needs more effectively while promoting an approach that puts countries and people at the centre of efforts to strengthen health systems, rather than focusing primarily on donors.
Madbouly stressed that this approach would boost national ownership, build local capacities and improve the sustainability of health systems.
He also underlined the importance of ensuring that the Accra Reset Initiative complements existing regional and continental frameworks and institutions, particularly the African Union and regional economic communities.
This, he added, would help unify efforts, exchange expertise and make better use of available resources without replacing existing integration mechanisms.
Madbouly also stressed the need to strengthen the collective voice of Global South countries in international forums and work toward a fairer and more balanced international system that responds more effectively to the needs of developing countries and gives them a greater role in decision-making.
He reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for efforts to promote integration and its openness to international partnerships based on mutual respect and shared interests.
