Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs Ahmed Attaf discussed bilateral relations and a number of regional issues of mutual interest.

During a phone call on Wednesday evening, the two ministers affirmed their commitment to building on the momentum in bilateral ties and following up on the implementation of the outcomes of the ninth Egyptian-Algerian Joint High Committee, with a view to advancing economic, trade and investment relations and opening broader horizons for partnership between the two countries.

They also exchanged views and assessments on developments in the regional landscape and the implications of rapid changes for Arab national security, stressing the need to strengthen understanding among Arab states and intensify consultation and co-ordination to address common challenges and preserve regional security and stability, according to a ministry press release in Cairo.

The two chief diplomats also discussed developments in the Palestinian cause, the situation in Sudan and the African Sahel region, and the latest developments in Libya.

Abdelatty and Attaf stressed the importance of continuing co-ordination within the framework of the Tripartite Neighbourhood Mechanism on Libya in a manner that supports the path towards a political settlement and preserves Libya’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
