President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has reaffirmed the depth of the historic and longstanding ties between Egypt and Tanzania, commending the notable progress witnessed in bilateral relations in recent years, particularly following his visit to Dar es Salaam and the participation of the Prime Minister in the inauguration of the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project.
The project, the President noted, has become a prominent symbol of Egyptian-Tanzanian co-operation on the African continent.
The President’s remarks came during a telephone conversation with the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, during which he conveyed his sincere condolences and deepest sympathy following the passing of her husband, Hafidh Ameir Hassan, Presidency Spokesman Mohamed El-Shennawy said in a statement.
He noted that the President further reaffirmed Egypt’s leadership and people’s solidarity with President Samia and her family during this difficult time, praying to Almighty God to bestow His vast mercy upon the deceased and grant his family and the brotherly Tanzanian people patience and solace.
He added that the President reiterated, during the call, Egypt’s continued support for Tanzania’s development efforts and stressed the importance of further strengthening bilateral co-operation and coordination across various areas of mutual interest, including water-related issues.
President Sisi also expressed Egypt’s anticipation of Tanzania’s participation in the 8th African Union Mid-Year Co-ordination Summit, scheduled to be held in Egypt in October 2026, as well as the business forum to be organised alongside the summit, with a view to expanding opportunities for economic and investment co-operation between the two brotherly countries, El-Shennawy said.
He stated that the telephone conversation reflected the two countries’ shared commitment to further advancing bilateral co-operation and co-ordination across areas of mutual interest.
