Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty discussed the latest developments in Lebanon during a phone call with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.
The call also covered regional developments and ways to boost bilateral relations, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity. He also stressed Cairo’s firm rejection of all Israeli violations and attacks against Lebanese sovereignty.
He underscored the need for Israel to fully withdraw from occupied Lebanese territories and for UN Security Council Resolution 1701 to be implemented in full and without selectivity.
Abdelatty also reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Lebanon’s state institutions, particularly the Lebanese army.
The two sides discussed wider and rapidly evolving regional developments, efforts to de-escalate tensions, and the repercussions of developments in the Red Sea for maritime security, freedom of international trade and energy supplies.
Abdelatty also outlined Egypt’s diplomatic efforts to prevent the escalation from spreading and to spare the region further tensions and instability.
