Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population reported on Sunday unprecedented progress in healthcare infrastructure projects between 2014 and 2026, with 1,309 projects launched at a total cost of LE403.46 billion. The plan aims to expand hospital capacity and modernise medical facilities nationwide, Minister Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar said.
Official figures show 981 projects completed at a cost of 132.42 billion pounds, while 328 remain under construction with investments of 271.04 billion pounds.
These include 75 national projects worth 209.5 billion pounds, adding nearly 19,000 beds, 1,570 incubators and 1,983 dialysis machines.
Assistant Minister Sherif Mostafa highlighted key facilities delivered in 2025/2026, including Alexandria Fever Hospital, Ismailia’s Tel El‑Kebir Hospital, Minya’s Beni Mazar Hospital, and the Luxor Medical Complex. Major upgrades were also completed in Cairo, Giza, Aswan, Matrouh, the Red Sea and other governorates.
Looking ahead to 2026/2027, the ministry expects to receive new projects such as the Central Laboratories in Badr (99 per cent complete), the Medical City in Obour (92 per centcomplete), and hospitals in Qalyubia, Gharbia, Sohag, Qena, South Sinai and the Red Sea, with progress ranging from 80 per cent to 99 per cent.
