Egypt’s unemployment rate has fallen to 5.8 per cent from about 13 per cent in 2014, Labour Minister Hassan Raddad said Saturday. He called the decline a major achievement under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Speaking at a news conference in Cairo to launch general regulations governing workplaces in private-sector companies and establishments, Raddad attributed the drop to government efforts to attract investment, expand national projects, improve job-oriented training and co-operate with the private sector.
Raddad said the government was implementing Sisi’s directives through integrated policies aimed at creating more jobs, improving young people’s skills and strengthening job security and stability to support investment, production and development.
He added that the decline reflected measures taken in recent years in investment, infrastructure and other national projects, as well as training and employment initiatives and an expanded partnership with the private sector.
Providing decent jobs and improving the skills of Egyptian workers will remain key priorities for the government in the coming period, he said.
