Egypt’s ambassador to Russia, Hamdy Shaaban, met Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow to discuss bilateral ties and issues of mutual interest, the Egyptian embassy said.
The meeting was part of ongoing consultations between Cairo and Moscow and aimed at strengthening the two countries’ strategic partnership, the statement said.
The officials discussed ways to expand economic, trade and investment co-operation, as well as major joint projects, including the Dabaa nuclear power plant and a Russian industrial zone in Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone.
They also exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern.
Shaaban said Egypt was keen to continue coordinating with Russia on regional and international matters to support security, stability and peaceful solutions to crises. He also praised the countries’ “historic and distinguished” relations.
Lavrov stressed the importance of further developing Russian-Egyptian ties, praised existing co-operation and co-ordination, and reaffirmed Moscow’s readiness to deepen the bilateral partnership, the statement said.
