A specialised mission to promote for Egyptian educational services in Nigeria kicked off in Lagos on Wednesday.
Held under the auspices of the Ministries of Investment and Foreign Trade and Higher Education and Scientific Research, the mission, which is part of efforts to promote promising service sectors in foreign market, is organised by the General Egyptian Exhibition and Convention Authority under the “Study in Egypt” initiative, in cooperation with the Supreme Council of Universities, the Central Administration for International Students and the Commercial Representation Authority. It runs from August 24 until the end of this month.
Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid said education is a promising sector for Egypt’s services exports, stressing the importance of intensifying efforts, particularly in African markets, to present Egypt’s higher education system and university programmes.
Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Abdelaziz Konsowa described higher education as one of Egypt’s key soft-power assets, noting that international students contribute to both Egypt’s economy and universities.
He said Egyptian universities have made notable progress in international rankings, alongside advances in scientific research and international publishing.
Egypt currently hosts students from more than 120 countries, offering modern programmes, diverse academic disciplines and qualified faculty, he added.
Konsowa noted that the ministry is working to internationalise education and expand the export of Egyptian educational services by strengthening engagement with students and educational institutions abroad.
The mission aims to establish direct contact between Egyptian universities and Nigerian students and institutions, introduce available academic programmes, and explain admission requirements and tuition fees.
Following Lagos, the mission will move to Abuja and Kano, seeking to attract more Nigerian students to Egyptian universities and expand academic cooperation between the two countries.
