As part of Egypt’s efforts to expand peaceful nuclear energy, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat met on Tuesday Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev in Nizhny Novgorod to review progress on the Dabaa nuclear power plant and explore wider co-operation.
Talks covered the current status of works at Dabaa, project timelines, and the importance of continued coordination between Egyptian and Russian teams to ensure adherence to schedules and nuclear safety standards. Esmat stressed that Dabaa is a strategic national project central to Egypt’s energy diversification and security, noting tangible progress in implementation.
The minister highlighted that co-operation extends beyond Dabaa to include capacity building, technology transfer and preparing Egyptian cadres to operate nuclear facilities to international standards. Likhachev reaffirmed Rosatom’s full support and commitment to delivering the project with the highest quality and safety.
Esmat also met with the head of a Rosatom subsidiary specialising in small nuclear reactor technologies. Discussions explored the latest advances in small and medium reactor design and manufacturing, their flexible applications in electricity generation and industry, and potential future co-operation.
