North Sinai Governor Khaled Megawer met on Tuesday with Turkish Ambassador in Cairo Salih Mutlu Sen and Turkish Red Crescent President Fatma Meric Yilmaz at his office in the governorate’s headquarters in Arish during their current visit to North Sinai.
According to a statement by the governorate, Megawer welcomed the Turkish officials, and reviewed Egypt’s extensive efforts to receive and store humanitarian aid before sending it to the Gaza Strip, as well as efforts to receive wounded and injured Palestinians for treatment at Egyptian hospitals.
The Turkish ambassador said his visit to North Sinai was part of continued Egyptian-Turkish co-operation in the humanitarian field, MENA reported.
The visit includes a tour of the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing and Arish seaport to follow up on efforts to deliver Turkish humanitarian aid to people affected in the Gaza Strip through Egyptian territory.
Yilmaz said her visit to Egypt aims to discuss and follow up on humanitarian aid efforts for the Gaza Strip in co-ordination with the Egyptian Red Crescent.
The visit also includes discussions on ways to strengthen humanitarian co-operation, visits to several hospitals, field visits to assess ongoing efforts, and overseeing the transportation of aid shipments at their actual locations.
