Egypt will host the 12th African University Games (Cairo 2026) from September 8 to 16, 2026, marking the first time the country hosts the FASU Games. The event brings together thousands of student-athletes from across the continent.

Organised by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in co-operation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Federation of Africa University Sports (FASU) and the Egyptian University Sports Federation, the Games will bring together delegations from 17 African countries, with around 2,000 athletes and administrators representing 81 universities.

Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister Abdelaziz Konsowa stressed the importance of hosting the Games, describing them as an opportunity to strengthen the role of Egyptian universities in deepening ties among African university students, and highlighting Egypt’s ability to host major continental sporting events.

Egyptian universities will host the participating delegations, providing opportunities for direct interaction between Egyptian students and their counterparts from other African countries and further strengthening cultural and educational ties.

The Cairo 2026 programme will feature competitions in 18 main sports, alongside three recreational activities and four para-sports. It offers a diverse programme including competition with recreational activities and promotes participation, fair play and the exchange of experience.

Competitions will be held at a number of universities and sports facilities across Greater Cairo, including Ain Shams University, Capital University, the American University in Cairo, the Maadi Olympic Centre and Al-Nady Club facilities in the New Capital.

The Games will also serve as a platform for African university students to meet, exchange experiences and build friendships and co-operation through sport, helping forge stronger bonds among the continent’s youth.
