Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdel-Aati received a phone call from his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on Wednesday to discuss bilateral relations and the latest regional developments.

The two ministers praised the deep and strategic ties binding Egypt and Saudi Arabia and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation across various fields.

They discussed ways to strengthen institutional cooperation, including preparations for the first meeting of the Egyptian-Saudi Supreme Coordination Council, as directed by the leaders of the two countries, as well as the next round of political consultations between the foreign ministers.

The top two diplomats stressed the importance of increasing mutual visits and boosting economic, trade and investment cooperation.

The two ministers agreed that the two countries should not be swayed by reports circulating in some media outlets and on social media regarding their close relations.

They also exchanged views on rapidly developing regional tensions and efforts by regional partners, including Egypt and Saudi Arabia, to de-escalate tensions, contain the crisis and return to diplomacy within the framework of the memorandum of understanding signed between the United States and Iran.

The ministers stressed the need to address regional security concerns, respect state sovereignty, prevent attacks and avoid further escalation.

They also underscored the importance of ensuring the security, safety and freedom of navigation in international waterways.

They also discussed activating the efforts of the regional quartet comprising Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan to support de-escalation, regional security and stability.
