Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli met in New Alamein with Moustafa Ismail, CEO of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency, to discuss the agency’s strategic vision and action plan for the coming period.
Madbouli emphasised the agency’s pivotal role in supporting Egypt’s SME sector, encouraging expansion and providing financial and technical backing for entrepreneurs and innovators. He called for continued development of the agency’s functions to strengthen its contribution to national economic growth and job creation.
Ismail presented a comprehensive strategy to transform the agency into a key enabler of growth, exports and entrepreneurship. He explained that restructuring efforts are underway to align with economic changes and enhance efficiency, creating a supportive environment for SMEs to expand their role in the economy. The plan includes separating financing activities from developmental functions, with a specialised entity handling financial operations while the agency focuses on technical support, governance and capacity‑building.
The new vision aims to boost SME competitiveness and export capacity, with mechanisms such as capacity‑building programmes, continuous training in entrepreneurship and financial management, access to expert advisory networks, and expanded marketing channels locally and internationally. Ismail also highlighted lessons from international models, including innovative financing approaches, knowledge‑based economies and technology exports.
He stressed that the strategy’s economic impact will be felt in fostering innovation, adopting modern technology to raise productivity, creating sustainable jobs, increasing private sector participation and investment, and supporting Egypt’s industrial policy for sustainable growth.
