Fitch Ratings commended Egypt’s approval of its National Drug Policy, describing it as a significant step in institutionalising the country’s pharmaceutical strategy under Egypt Vision 2030. The policy focuses on localising drug manufacturing, strengthening pharmaceutical security and expanding exports.
According to Fitch, the framework provides clear guidelines to ensure the availability of safe, effective and high‑quality medicines, while broadening access and supporting domestic production, innovation and investment. It is expected to improve coordination between public health priorities and industrial development.
The agency noted that the move represents a structural advancement for Egypt’s pharmaceutical market, enhancing supply security, regulatory standards and industrial expansion. It also supports Egypt’s bid to reach level four regulatory maturity, which would positively impact drug quality and availability, while boosting the country’s ambitions to expand pharmaceutical exports.
The Egyptian Drug Authority announced on 3 July 2026 the adoption of the National Drug Policy, which sets out a comprehensive strategic framework for developing the sector.
