Yemeni government forces said Tuesday they had rescued all 14 crew members of an Indian-flagged cargo ship that sank after being struck by a projectile near Yemen’s western coast.
The Indian shipping minister said the MSV Faize Noore Oliya was hit by a projectile near Yemeni waters, causing the vessel to capsize and sink.
The government-affiliated National Resistance Forces said coast guard and naval units carried out a joint rescue operation after the vessel was attacked about 13 nautical miles (24 kilometres) south of the Houthi-held port city of Hodeidah.
The rescued crew included 13 Indian sailors and one Yemeni sailor, the forces said. All were taken to safety and received medical treatment. No casualties were reported.
The National Resistance Forces blamed Yemen’s Houthi rebels for the attack. The Houthis have not commented on the incident.
