Lebanon and Israel began a seventh round of direct talks in Rome on Tuesday under US sponsorship, Lebanese media reported.
The negotiations focus on issues related to implementing a US-mediated framework agreement signed by Beirut and Tel Aviv in June, Lebanon’s National News Agency said.
Italy’s ANSA news agency confirmed that the talks had opened but provided no further details.
Rome hosted the sixth round on June 14, after five previous rounds in Washington. The discussions culminated in the signing of the framework agreement on June 26.
Under the agreement, Israel would gradually withdraw from all occupied Lebanese territory in exchange for the deployment of the Lebanese army in those areas and the disarmament of armed groups, including Hezbollah.
The latest talks come amid continued tensions along Lebanon’s southern border, where Israel has carried out land-clearing, demolition and explosives operations targeting homes and other structures in several towns.
