Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptians Abroad Badr Abdel-Aati held a series of telephone calls on Sunday with senior regional and international officials to discuss the latest developments in Gaza and wider regional efforts to de-escalate tensions.
During a call with UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nikolay Mladenov, Abdel-Aati stressed the importance of fully implementing the first phase of the US President’s peace plan for Gaza, including ensuring safe, sustained and unrestricted humanitarian aid access, the Israeli withdrawal from the Strip, and the launch of early recovery and reconstruction efforts.
He also underlined the need for the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza to begin operating from inside the Strip to manage the transitional phase and preserve the unity of the Palestinian territories.
The two sides also emphasised the importance of all parties fulfilling their commitments under the plan and avoiding actions that could undermine its implementation.
In a separate call with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Abdel-Aati reviewed regional and international efforts to contain the escalation following the resumption of military operations.
Both ministers stressed the need to intensify diplomatic efforts, return to negotiations, prioritise political solutions and uphold international law to restore regional security and stability.
Abdel-Aati also discussed regional developments with US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, stressing the importance of continued joint efforts to prevent further escalation, support de-escalation initiatives, resume dialogue and address the root causes of regional crises.
During his conversation with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, Abdel-Aati reaffirmed the importance of strengthening Egyptian-Iraqi relations while enhancing coordination on regional issues.
The two ministers called for de-escalation, dialogue and political solutions, while Abdel-Aati reiterated the importance of completing the first phase of the Gaza peace plan to ensure humanitarian aid access and pave the way for subsequent phases.
In a further call with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the two ministers exchanged views on regional developments.
They also stressed the need to intensify regional and international efforts to contain tensions, prevent further escalation, strengthen political and diplomatic solutions, and maintain close Egyptian-Kuwaiti coordination in support of regional peace and stability.
