Egypt’s General Authority for Cultural Palaces has launched its summer ‘Art Beach’ programme with performances at the Roman Theatre in Ras el-Bar, a resort city in the Damietta Governorate, as part of the Culture Ministry’s nationwide arts initiative.
The opening event featured the Assiut Folk Arts Troupe, which performed dances inspired by Upper Egyptian heritage, including traditional stick dances and wedding celebrations, MENA reported.
The programme aims to bring cultural performances to holidaymakers at coastal resorts and includes folk, traditional and Arabic music ensembles, officials said.
The programme includes 57 performances in the governorates of Damietta and Dakahlia. Thirty-eight shows will be held at the Ras el-Bar Roman Theatre and New Damietta Theatre from August 1 to 25, while 19 performances are scheduled at the Gamasa Theatre from August 3 to 26.
The events are being organised by the General Authority for Cultural Palaces in co-operation with regional and local cultural branches.
