Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati said on Sunday there could be no security or stability in the region without a just settlement of the Palestinian issue, while warning that military solutions only lead to further instability and destruction.
He added that Egypt was making intensive efforts with regional parties to support de-escalation and had worked to halt the war in the Gaza Strip.
He made these remarks during his speech at the Seventh Conference for Egyptians Abroad, held in Cairo on Sunday.
“Cairo was committed to preventing the conflict from spreading and preserving regional stability,” he said, reiterating Egypt’s rejection of any Israeli plans to annex the occupied West Bank or displace Palestinians.
Egypt is seeking a comprehensive political horizon for resolving the Palestinian issue and urged the implementation of the first and second phases of US President Donald Trump’s plan for Gaza, including weapons collection and control, an Israeli withdrawal and the entry of humanitarian aid.
Abdel-Aati also called for the launch of early-recovery and reconstruction projects in Gaza.
“Egypt condemned what it called illegal Israeli measures in the occupied Palestinian territories, including Jerusalem, and rejected practices aimed at fragmenting the territory,” he added.
