Egypt has adopted a clear strategy to support industrial localisation and the transfer of advanced technologies, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat said on Tuesday.

The minister made these remarks during the inauguration of a new Siemens factory producing critical electrical components and automation solutions for industry and infrastructure. Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem and German Ambassador to Egypt Jürgen Schulz attended the event.

Esmat stressed that the government attaches paramount importance to localising industries of electrical power equipment.

He said the government is committed to providing the necessary support to manufacturers in this field. He added that new regulations are being introduced to increase the local content in renewable energy projects.

Esmat described Siemens as a long-standing strategic partner that has operated in the Egyptian market for more than a century. He highlighted the company’s investments in electricity, renewable energy, smart infrastructure, digital transformation and national projects.

He pointed to Siemens’ contribution to major electricity generation plants, control centres, grid monitoring and operation systems. He also noted the company’s role in supporting the transition from conventional power networks to smart grids.

The minister said the factory, which will manufacture electrical equipment, protection panels and other key components, will initially serve the domestic market before expanding exports to the Middle East and Africa.

He added that the electricity sector supports the local production of renewable energy equipment to meet domestic demand and strengthen exports to neighbouring countries. The initiative aligns with the state’s efforts to localise technology, expand domestic manufacturing, upgrade electricity infrastructure, and deploy advanced automation and digital transformation solutions.

Esmat reaffirmed the Ministry of Electricity’s support for partnerships that deliver mutual benefits while facilitating technology transfer and localisation. He added that Egypt’s increasingly attractive investment climate, together with the extensive reconstruction, modernisation and development over the past decade, has created a strong foundation for attracting further industrial investment.
