Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation, and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdel-Aati, has signed an agreement granting five Egyptian agricultural products immediate access to the Philippine market: grapes, onions, garlic, tomatoes, and carrots.
The agreement was signed on Friday during the 10th round of Egypt–Philippines political consultations, which took place at the foreign minister level for the first time. Philippine Foreign Secretary Theresa Lazaro led her country’s delegation.
Both ministers noted that the agreement represents a crucial step towards strengthening bilateral trade and economic co-operation. They highlighted it as the start of a new phase in mutual food security that will boost trade flows and serve shared economic interests.
The two sides also highlighted ongoing coordination, supported by the Egyptian Embassy in Manila, to finalise procedures for exporting Egyptian potatoes to the Philippines.
Furthermore, both nations reaffirmed their commitment to expanding broader economic ties by promoting Egyptian fertiliser exports, facilitating the registration of Egyptian pharmaceuticals and dietary supplements, and increasing exports of cotton fabrics and textiles
These initiatives aim to diversify bilateral trade, drive investment, and build stronger economic ties between Egypt and the Philippines.
