Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdel-Aati met his Brazilian counterpart Mauro Vieira on Thursday, on the sidelines of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Manila.

The two ministers discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and exchanged views on key regional and international issues.

Abdel-Aati said Egypt values its long-standing relationship with Brazil, describing it as a strategic partner and a leading country in Latin America.

He praised the steady progress in bilateral ties since the signing of the strategic partnership agreement and stressed the importance of maintaining the current momentum.

The minister also reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to strengthening South-South cooperation.

He said Cairo believes stronger partnerships among developing countries can promote economic growth, address global challenges and support sustainable development.

Abdel-Aati highlighted Egypt’s interest in expanding relations with Latin American and Caribbean countries.

He also stressed the importance of closer cooperation with regional blocs, particularly Mercosur, to boost trade, investment and political coordination. He described Brazil as a key partner in advancing this approach.

The minister said expanding economic, trade and investment cooperation remains a priority. He pointed to the recent growth in bilateral trade, especially the increase in Egyptian exports to Brazil.

The meeting also covered regional developments. Abdel-Aati reviewed Egypt’s efforts and diplomatic contacts aimed at reducing tensions across the region and promoting stability.

For his part, Vieira praised Egypt’s role in supporting regional stability and expressed Brazil’s interest in further strengthening bilateral cooperation and coordination in the coming period.
