Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdel-Aati met with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy KajaKallas on Thursday on the sidelines of the ASEAN ministerial meeting in Manila. The talks came as part of regular consultations within the framework of the Egypt–EU strategic partnership.

Minister Abdel Aaty praised the momentum in Egypt–EU relations, noting the progress achieved in the strategic and comprehensive partnership, as highlighted by the 11th Partnership Council held in Luxembourg in June. He stressedthe importance of strengthening economic, investment, and trade cooperation, describing economic ties as a cornerstone of the partnership.

The minister underlined Egypt’s pivotal role in supporting security and stability in the Middle East, pointing to cooperation with the EU on migration and combating irregular migration. He outlined the economic burdens Egypt bears in hosting millions of foreigners, including refugees and migrants, and called for opening channels for regular migration, supporting development projects that address the root causes of the problem, and assisting host countries. He also referred to Egypt’s bilateral efforts with European states to conclude long‑term migration agreements.

Regional issues were also discussed. Minister Abdel Aatybriefed Kallas on Egypt’s intensive efforts to promote de‑escalation and dialogue, stressing support for diplomatic solutions to reduce tensions and safeguard regional stability, maritime security, and global trade.

On the Palestinian issue, he emphasised the need to complete the first phase of the US president’s plan, ensure full and rapid humanitarian access to Gaza, and prepare conditions for early recovery and reconstruction. He warned against the ongoing Israeli violations in the West Bank.

The two sides exchanged views on Sudan, Libya, and Syria, affirming the importance of supporting these countries’ stability and preserving sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Kallas commended Egypt’s role in regional de‑escalation and expressed the EU’s readiness to continue coordination and consultation under the strategic partnership.
