Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met Mozambique’s Foreign Minister Maria Lucas in Cairo on Monday to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and coordinating positions on regional issues.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Tamim Khallaf said Abdelatty praised the growing momentum in Egypt–Mozambique relations, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties. He emphasized the importance of boosting economic, trade, and investment cooperation, encouraging Egyptian private sector involvement in Mozambique’s development plans, particularly in infrastructure, energy, education, security, and capacity building. He also expressed hope for convening the third session of the joint committee soon.

The talks covered cooperation in health and pharmaceuticals, with Egypt offering support in drug manufacturing and distribution across the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Abdelatty highlighted Egypt’s advanced capabilities in healthcare and pharmaceuticals as a basis for deeper collaboration.

On security, the minister underscored Egypt’s readiness to share expertise in counterterrorism and expand training programs through institutions such as Al-Azhar, the Ministry of Higher Education, the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development, and the Cairo Center for Conflict Resolution and Peacekeeping.

The two ministers also exchanged views on promoting peace, stability, and development in Africa, particularly in the Horn of Africa and Great Lakes region. They agreed to continue coordination bilaterally and in multilateral forums, building on existing political and developmental momentum to serve shared interests and support stability across the continent.
