Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdel Aaty met on Thursday in Vienna with Susanne Raab, Director General of the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD).
Minister Abdel Aaty praised the growing partnership between Egypt and ICMPD, noting the center’s support for projects under the Migration Partnership Facility (MPF). He stressed Egypt’s comprehensive approach to migration, which balances humanitarian, political, security, and development dimensions. The minister highlighted Egypt’s priority of promoting safe and regular migration pathways, particularly labour mobility to European markets, to serve mutual interests.
He also outlined the significant burdens Egypt bears in hosting millions of refugees and migrants, who receive equal access to services without discrimination. Minister Abdel Aatyunderscored the importance of refugees and asylum seekers regularising their status under national laws.
The minister called for stronger international burden-sharing to sustain services for refugees, migrants, and host communities, linking migration management with development needs. This, he said, would help mobilise greater support for national development programmes and joint initiatives.
