In a move highlighting the expanding role of Egypt’s Armed Forces in education and human capital development, Defence Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Ashraf Salem Zaher, announced the admission of new student cohorts to the Egyptian Military Academy and military colleges, as well as the Armed Forces’ health institutes and military sports schools.

The event also marked the first-ever announcement of admissions to Kayan University, the Armed Forces’ newly established civilian university, beginning with the October 2026 intake.

The announcement, made during a press conference attended by Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa, and senior military commanders and officials, carried significance beyond the annual admissions process. It underscored the Armed Forces’ broader strategy to modernise military and civilian education through advanced academic programmes and cutting-edge technology.

Addressing the gathering, Zaher conveyed the greetings of President Abdel Fattah ElSisi and reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ commitment to supporting Egypt’s vision of developing future generations equipped with knowledge, discipline and leadership skills.

He stressed that admissions are conducted through a fully integrated electronic system designed to ensure maximum transparency, fairness and equal opportunity, with no room for human intervention or preferential treatment.

The Defence Minister also issued a clear warning to applicants and their families against rumours claiming that admission to military institutions can be secured through personal connections or influence, emphasising that merit and competence remain the sole criteria for selecting candidates from among thousands of applicants each year.

The conference’s most notable announcement was the launch of Kayan University as the Armed Forces’ first civilian university, established in line with directives from President El-Sisi to help prepare highly qualified professionals in medicine, engineering, information technology and artificial intelligence.

The university will admit male and female civilian students holding Thanaweya Amma, Al-Azhar secondary school certificates and recognised equivalent qualifications. Academic programmes will be offered through faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Engineering, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, with admissions based on officially approved minimum grade requirements and eligibility criteria.

Major General Mohamed Salah El-Torky, Director of the Egyptian Military Academy, together with commanders of the military colleges and deans of Kayan University’s faculties, outlined the admission requirements and application procedures. Meanwhile, the Director of the Armed Forces Medical Services Department presented the eligibility criteria for the military health institutes, while the head of the Armed Forces Sports Authority reviewed admissions to the military sports schools.

The Egyptian Military Academy continues to apply a comprehensive evaluation system that includes medical, physical and psychological examinations, aptitude and personality assessments, English language and computer proficiency tests, as well as final interview boards, ensuring that only the most qualified candidates are selected.
