Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, on Sunday reviewed preparations for launching the second phase of the presidential “Decent Life” initiative, which aims to improve infrastructure and public services in rural villages across the country.
During a meeting with officials from engineering consultancy Dar Al-Handasah, Madbouli said the government was working to ensure the second phase is implemented on schedule in line with directives from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, while maximising the impact of public spending to improve services across multiple sectors.
Lessons learned from the first phase would help overcome implementation challenges, accelerate project delivery and increase the use of locally manufactured components, prime minister said.
Dar Al-Handasah presented proposed implementation mechanisms designed to speed up execution of the second phase based on experience gained during the rollout of the first phase.
Officials said 826 villages have been completed under the first phase of the initiative. Between June 9 and July 5, work was completed in 31 additional villages, alongside 90 projects, while another 120 projects across various sectors have been handed over.
The meeting also reviewed measures needed to complete and operationalise the remaining projects so residents of targeted villages can begin benefiting from them.
