During his visit to Türkiye to participate in the Turkish Maritime Summit, Egypt’s  Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel El-Wazir, held talks with Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu on expanding bilateral cooperation in transport and logistics.

The meeting concluded on Thursday with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing cooperation in the utilisation of regional and international transport corridors.

The agreement seeks to strengthen transport connectivity between Asia and Africa, maximise the strategic value of the Middle Corridor and Iraq’s Development Road, improve transit transport efficiency, and explore new regional transport routes in coordination with neighbouring countries.

El-Wazir said the agreement marks the beginning of a broader partnership in international transport corridors, maritime transport and logistics, stressing that closer integration has become essential amid global supply chain disruptions, climate challenges and growing development needs.

He highlighted Egypt’s strategy to become a regional hub for transport, logistics and transit trade, while reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting serious foreign investment, particularly from Turkish investors.

The two ministers also discussed expanding cooperation in maritime, rail, road and air transport, including prospects for linking Egypt to the Hejaz Railway network and collaborating on commercial shipbuilding.

Uraloğlu described the newly signed MoU as the overarching framework for future regional connectivity projects and broader transport integration across the region.
