Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Abdelaziz Qansowa, and the UK’s Ambassador to Egypt, Mark Bryson Richardson, probed on Thursday says of boosting co-operation between the two nations.

During the meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters in the New Capital, the minister highlighted the historical ties between Egypt and the UK.

He also stressed the ministry’s commitment to expanding collaboration with British institutions in higher education, research, innovation, technology, and industry to support development and shared interests.

Minister Qansowa presented the ministry’s strategy, which focuses on applied scientific research and international partnerships, in line with Egypt’s vision of building a knowledge-based economy.

He also emphasised the importance of linking academia with industry and production sectors, creating effective communication channels between researchers and government bodies to meet research needs and accelerate the shift toward applied research.

The minister underlined the ministry’s efforts to internationalize higher education by building partnerships with leading universities worldwide, supporting knowledge exchange, and developing educational and research programs in Egyptian universities.

Qansowa pointed to the significance of establishing technology parks within universities and research centers as platforms to transform research results and innovative ideas into industrial and economic projects, supporting startups, transferring and localizing technology, and strengthening ties with industry.

For his part, the British ambassador appreciated the soldi ties between the two countries, especially in higher education and research, and affirmed the UK’s commitment to enhancing academic and research co-operation with Egypt, recognizing its distinguished human resources and strategic role as a gateway to Africa. 

The meeting discussed expanding co-operation between universities and research institutions in both countries, broadening partnerships in priority fields, and supporting knowledge and expertise exchange to advance higher education and research and achieve sustainable development.
