Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati has reiterated Egypt’s unwavering support for the Lebanese state and its brotherly people, and stressed the importance of preserving the country’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity and supporting efforts aimed at restoring security and stability across the country.
Abdel-Aati had a telephone call late on Sunday with Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri, as part of ongoing consultations on the latest developments in Lebanon and regional efforts to de-escalate tensions, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tamim Khallf said.
The Egyptian top diplomat underlined the importance of building upon the framework agreement reached under United States auspices with a view to securing a complete Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory, extending the authority of the Lebanese state across all its territory and ensuring the full and non-selective implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.
Abdel-Aati stressed directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on carrying on with providing all forms of support to Lebanon, its leadership, government and people, while backing Lebanese national institutions and their efforts to preserve stability and safeguard the country’s interests.
For his part, Berri appreciated the Egyptian leadership for steadfast support for Lebanon, particularly during periods of crisis, commending Egypt’s consistent role in supporting Lebanon’s security, stability and unity.
The two sides agreed to maintain close coordination and consultations during the coming period on issues of mutual concern and regional developments.
