Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdel Aaty met on Thursday with the European Union’s Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process Christophe Bigeot to review the latest developments in the Palestinian territories and coordinate efforts to advance the political track.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tamim Khalaf said Minister Abdel Aaty stressed the need to refocus international attention on the Palestinian issue, ensuring full implementation of the first phase of the US President’s peace plan and moving towards the secondstage. He underlined the importance of sustaining the flowshumanitarian aid, enabling early recovery and reconstruction, and supporting the Palestinian National Committee in assuming its responsibilities in Gaza.

The talks also addressed the urgency of deploying an international stabilisation force to monitor the ceasefire, alongside Egypt’s call for international backing to guarantee the committee’s success.

Minister Abdel Aaty voiced Egypt’s strong condemnation of continued settlement expansion, settler violence, and measures altering the legal and historical status of East Jerusalem, including repeated incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque. He warned of the grave consequences of such practices for regional stability.

Bigeot reiterated EU’s rejection of settlement activities and unilateral measures, which undermine the two-state solution, stressing adherence to international law and the need to halt actions that escalate tensions.

Concluding the meeting, Abdel Aaty emphasised the importance of sustained Egypt–EU coordination and intensified international efforts to restore a political horizon leading to the implementation of the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The EU envoy praised Egypt’s pivotal role in supporting de-escalation, facilitating humanitarian access, and advancing the political process, affirming the EU’s commitment to continued consultation with Cairo in pursuit of a just and comprehensive peace.
