Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli on Monday inaugurated the fifth edition of Africa Health ExCon 2026 on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to advancing healthcare development and strengthening health co-operation across Africa.
Organised by Egypt’s Unified Procurement Authority under the patronage of the president, the event is being held from 15 to 18 June and has brought together ministers, parliamentarians, heads of regional and international organisations, diplomats, healthcare leaders and private-sector representatives.
This year’s edition has attracted unprecedented participation from Egyptian health institutions, reflecting growing integration within the national healthcare system and supporting efforts to advance health development agendas at both the national and continental levels.
Held under the theme “Health Sovereignty in Africa: Leadership, Resilience and Self-Reliance,” the conference is organised in co-operation with the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).
The event highlights Egypt’s position as a leading regional hub for healthcare development and African health integration, in line with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and Egypt Vision 2030.
Addressing the conference, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said Africa Health ExCon 2026 reflects Egypt’s vision of strengthening African health sovereignty and positioning the continent as a centre for healthcare innovation, manufacturing and trade.
He described the event as a strategic platform for building partnerships, facilitating technology transfer and knowledge exchange, and promoting equitable access to health technologies while supporting more resilient and sustainable healthcare systems across Africa.
Abdel Ghaffar stressed that Africa possesses the human capital, scientific expertise and investment opportunities needed to become a global hub for healthcare innovation and manufacturing.
He reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote African health integration, localise medical industries and strengthen healthcare capacities throughout the continent.
Widely regarded as Africa’s largest healthcare gathering, the conference aims to enhance health security, support local pharmaceutical and medical manufacturing, strengthen healthcare supply chains and expand investment and innovation opportunities across the sector.
