Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Ahmed Rustum, has held talks with Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Cairo, Elkhan Tulukhov, on advancing bilateral co-operation, with a focus on sustainable development and expanding joint investment opportunities.
The meeting comes amid growing momentum in relations between the two countries, bolstered by recent high-level presidential visits and a shared commitment to strengthening economic ties.
Rustum reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to empowering the private sector and maintaining macroeconomic stability despite regional challenges. He highlighted the country’s progress in structural reforms, infrastructure development and the use of digital tools to monitor progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The minister noted that previous sessions of the Egyptian-Azerbaijani Joint Committee had helped open new avenues for co-operation, adding that both countries are now well positioned to translate their complementary strengths into tangible economic gains.
For his part, Ambassador Tulukhov praised Egypt’s achievements in infrastructure and smart city development, stressing Azerbaijan’s interest in benefiting from the country’s experience in these fields. He also pointed to the launch of direct flights between Baku and Cairo earlier this year as an important step towards boosting trade, tourism and business links.
Tulukhov further highlighted Azerbaijan’s preparations to host the annual meetings of the Islamic Development Bank next week, followed by the forthcoming summit of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation (OIC), where a number of major regional development initiatives are expected to be discussed and endorsed.
The discussions reflected both countries’ determination to deepen their economic partnership and harness new opportunities for regional growth and development.
